Saison (French meaning "season") brews are some of the most sought-after styles of summer beers. Brewed for the consumption of farm workers in Belgium, they were light enough to enjoy plenty of without being owned (up to 5 liters a day), but had plenty of good flavors that made it easy to enjoy. Since the farm days of 3%ABV, today's Saison's are normally between 6-9%ABV but the flavors and structure of the beer haven't changed all that much. Their light, refreshing fruit tones and brilliant acidity make for perfect hot weather sippers and, when paired with almost any dish, bring out flavors and complextion beyond words: the bright fruit tones and unique spice notes make Saisons perfect for hot dishes especially but as light as they seem, Saisons can also over-power a delicate meal. The signature cloudy pour with lively head releases anything from barnyard funk and lemon zest to peach and ginger. The drink is delightfully warm with earthy tones and spice while the finish is usually semi-dry and sometimes mildly sweet of tropical frutis.
If you've yet in indulge in one, stop what you are doing (if you're at work tell your boss I said it was okay to leave work), go get a few, and enjoy! Here are a few to look for when you come into Argonaut:
