Altano Douro Tinto 2015
Wine SpectatorThis well-structured red shows a ripe core of glazed cherry and currant flavors, with tangy undertones of licorice and spice. Hints of floral and dried herb detail the finish. Drink now through 2022. 4,000 cases imported.
Wine EnthusiastA ripe and smooth wine that has generous black fruits and a light touch of tannins. Coming from a good vintage, the wine is rich, packed with fruit and ready to drink.
Wine AdvocateThe 2015 Altano is another example of how the 2015 reds have fine intensity of flavor. It is a roughly equal blend of Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca, aged for four months in French oak (80%) and stainless steel (20%). It comes in at 13.5% alcohol. (This wine is bottled in batches; the one I tasted was from the first bottling in February 2017.) At the moment, this is a friendly and fruit forward red, vivid in flavor, light and bright. It never has a lot of concentration and it is made to drink young. Right now you'll like it a lot as a picnic wine. The winemaker advises that the 2010 and 2011 are drinking well, but this is not a wine that rewards aging. Hint: it's a nice value, today.
