Viña-Real Crianza 2013
Wine AdvocateThe 2013 Viña Real Crianza is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% between Garnacha Tinta, Mazuelo and Graciano from Rioja Alavesa; it was fermented in stainless steel and matured in French and American oak barrels for 13-14 months. It feels like a very serious vintage for the bottling, and when I tasted it, the wine felt closed and a little backward; it has a lactic touch and fruit from the red spectrum denoting freshness. The palate felt similarly closed and ungiving, with fine tannins and good acidity. There is not great complexity or depth, fresh and accessible, without the structure that more serious vintages have. One for the short term. 900,000 bottles produced.
All sizes are 750ml unless otherwise stated.
