All of the Cabernet Sauvignon is from our Reserve Block here at the Oakville Estate. The 2014 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon shows the intrinsic black stone fruit nuances and the soft tannin structure that define our Oakville, Napa Valley-floor Cabernet. The Reserve Cabernet gets every ounce of special care a winery can devote to its flagship wine.

Wine Review OnlineIf there is such a thing as a sweet spot for Napa Valley cabernet sauvignon, the Oakville district in the heart of the valley would have to be a con tender. Robert Mondavi, Far Niente and Nickel & Nickel have taken up residence in Oakville and produce stunning cabernet with remarkable consistency. Groth, though lesser known, is no less impressive. The 2014 reserve cab is a reminder that the big three haven’t cornered the market on quality. This wine is textbook Oakville, delivering rich layers of blackberry and cassis, a touch of cedar and graphite, splendid notes of wood spice, and firm tannins that suggest long life. The structure, texture and balance of this wine are a collector’s dream.

Wine EnthusiastMuted at first, this reserve wine shows a deft hand. A red currant tone is met by a mild grip of tannins and a soft midpalate that is lightly rich in coconut shavings and mocha. Supple and balanced in richness, it offers classic flavors of cassis and cherry wrapped in supportive oak.

Wine SpectatorAromas of dark berry, fresh-cut herbs, cedary oak and gravelly earth are tight and well-centered. Still raw and edgy, but nothing a year or two won't resolve. Patience required. Best from 2020 through 2033. 4,000 cases made.

Jeb DunnuckAged 22 months in 100% new French oak, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve offers slightly more richness and depth, with similar notes of black currants, tobacco leaf, herbs and damp earth. Medium-bodied, nicely concentrated, with firm, yet ripe tannin, it's certainly not a blockbuster, but has attractive elegance and purity, with plenty of tannins. Give bottles 2-4 years and enjoy over the following decade.
