J. Bouchon Canto Sur 2015
Wine AdvocateIn 2015, the amount of Mediterranean grapes was incremented, and the 2015 Canto Sur came to 54% Carménère and 25% each Cariñena and País; this was bottled unoaked after four months in concrete tanks. I tasted an unbottled sample of it and It's much fresher with more aromas of thyme, lavender, rosemary and licorice, and less of the herbal aromas. I don't usually rate unbottled wines, but I had to show the direction where they are going -- in a more Mediterranean way, the way they want to go with their wines. This is a welcomed change and an exciting development to follow over the following years. I look forward to tasting it bottled next time. Some 24,000 bottles produced.
Wine SpectatorJuicy, with lively raspberry and red licorice flavors supported by suave tannins. The crunchy finish is filled with zesty crushed stone and pepper accents. Carmenère, Carignan and Pais. Drink now through 2019. 2,000 cases made.
Wine EnthusiastA shiny magenta color is pretty. This blend of Carmenère, Carignan and País smells of cherry and raspberry along with latex and iodine. A medium-bodied palate is home to foxy oaky herbal raspberry flavors, while medicinal berry notes steer the finish.
All sizes are 750ml unless otherwise stated.
