The grapes come from old vines vineyards, 60-80 years-old, with yields of 2T/Ha and located high on the hillsides, 3,000 ft above sea level, around Calatayud. The vineyards are planted in principally decomposed slate and gravely clay soils. Even though there is very little rainfall in the region (around 350ml per year), the clay is at depth and allows for the vines to obtain moisture and be dry grown

VinousDark purple. Deeply pitched cherry, cassis and pipe tobacco aromas are brightened by floral and peppery spice qualities. Cherry compote and plum jam flavors coat the palate, with juicy acidity providing shape and back-end cut. Gains focus as well as depth with air and finishes sweet, smooth and quite long, with fine-grained tannins adding grip. Pretty serious in style for a Garnacha and a seriously great value as well.-JR

Wine AdvocateAnother amazing bargain is the 2014 Garnacha de Fuego. This is the red wine equivalent, fermented and aged in stainless steel for six months before bottling. The good news is that Ordoñez produces 10,000 cases of this wine, which has loads of fruit, strawberry and black cherry notes intermixed with licorice and earth, unreal purity and richness for this price point. It has to be tasted to be believed. The problem with wines at this price point is that most people spending this kind of money never expect anything so personality-filled and intense. So they are probably shocked by it. Drink it over the next several years.

Wine EnthusiastBest Buy. Saucy blueberry aromas are a touch muddled and difficult to decipher, while this Garnacha feels medium in body and healthy. Raspberry and plum flavors come with a resiny, pasty oak note, while medicinality rises up on the finish.

Wine SpectatorThis juicy red shows a fruity character, with cherry and boysenberry flavors that are ripe and sweet, balanced by herbal and minty notes. Offers just enough tannins for grip. Drink now. 5,000 cases made.
