Nielson Santa Barbara County Chardonnay 2017
|Region||California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara|
Rated 90 points Wine Enthusiast. Honey, butter, yellow pear, pineapple and vanilla cream show on the supple and soft palate of this bottling—one of the new appellation blends branded under the Nielson name. Sea salt and caramel apple show on the palate, which is underlied and bound by a rain-on-slate minerality, and finishes on an apple custard note.
The 2017 Chardonnay Santa Barbara County fermented in stainless steel, neutral oak and only 8% in new French oak, with partial malolactic fermentation. It features scents of baker's yeast, Bosc pear, banana chip and touches of spring honey and white flowers. The palate is medium-bodied and creamy with a fresh fruit core, juicy acidity and a refreshing finish. This offers a bit more interest than the average unoaked Chardonnay.
