Esk Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2018
|Region||New Zealand, Marlborough, Awatere Valley|
Green veggy and herbal notes take the lead in this wine in the form of jalapeño peppers and nettles. They're followed closely by notes of lemon rind, peach and white pepper spice. The waxy stony texture on the palate is cut through by tingly acidity. Sea salt and lemon zip through to the finish.
The 2018 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is a plump, medium-bodied wine. On the nose, it combines aspects of the Awatere and Wairau Valleys in its juxtaposition of leafy notes of tomato and nettle with riper notes of guava and nectarine. One wishes for a bit more depth and intensity, but this is a solid effort.
Peach and orange sherbet flavors are appealing and bright, with lip-smacking juicy acidity and a touch of lemon verbena on the finish. Drink now.
