Assobio Douro 2015 Bottle
Wine AdvocateThe 2015 Assobio is a roughly equal blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz (just a bit heavy on the Nacional). Only about 20% of the blend was aged in well-used French oak for six months. It comes in at 13.5% alcohol. Increasingly, as time goes on, I find myself in love with what I call "summer reds" these days. Here's a fine example. It's on the lighter side. It is fresh and clean. The fruit flavor is vivid. You can probably drink it a little cooler than normal, which will make it refreshing on a warm summer day. It's simply delicious, but it has some structure, too, some brightness to cut the fruit. It has reasonable concentration for the level. This won't turn into anything special, and it should be drunk as young as possible, but it sure will win fans this summer. It's worth leaning up just a bit right now as it executes its style beautifully.
Wine SpectatorA savory and well-spiced red, with dried herb and fresh earth aromas edging the boysenberry and red plum flavors. Firm tannins structure the minerally finish. Drink now through 2022. 27,000 cases made.
