Domaine Virginie Thunevin Bordeaux 2015
Staff Comments: Here is a wine that is produced by Jean-Luc Thunevin “the bad boy of St-Emillion” Owner of Chateau Valandraud, and recognized as the first “garagiste” winemaker in Bordeaux. Domaine Virginie Thunevin is named after his daughter and made from 40 year old vines in Lalande de Fronsac 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet and 5% Cabernet Franc. Dark, inky, and beautiful! Full bodied with notes of tobacco, licorice, mulberries and dark chocolate. For this price, Old World wine lovers will drink this up! The tannins are soft with balanced acidity. Have this with a Swiss Mantel Cheese, spare ribs or paella. The finish was spot on and elegant.

James SucklingA red with lots of blackberry and blueberry aromas and flavors. Full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish.
Wine AdvocateThe 2015 Domaine Virginie Thunevin has a fragrant bouquet with dark cherries, bergamot and light stony scents. There is a clarity here, an honesty that I like. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly coarse tannin, but I appreciate the fruit profile: mulberry, red plum and a healthy sprinkle of white pepper and spice towards the finish. Give this 2-3 years in bottle to absorb the oak and you'll have yourself a perfect introduction to Jean-Luc Thunevin's winemaking skill.
