Like the rest of the varietal reds from the range, the 2017 Año Cero Tempranillo fermented with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats. One-third of the volume matured in French oak barrels for ten months and another third matured in American oak barrels for ten months. Tempranillo is the second most planted variety in El Cepillo (La Consulta), because of the soils and the higher resistance to frost compared with Malbec. This was produced from a 25-year-old pergola-trained vineyard at 1,250 meters in altitude with traditional surface irrigation. It has a super varietal nose, in a style that transports me to the wines from Ribera del Duero from the 1980s, with great clarity and definition and a polished, sleek palate, really balanced and tasty. Bravo! Great value too. 27,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in January 2018.
