Merino Syrah 2014
Staff Comments – This Chilean Syrah is quite tasty! On the nose this has a luscious aroma of blackberry and other lush dark berries, violet and a little smoky spice. Open this up a for 30 minutes ahead of serving. Rich yet elegant blackberry and raspberry flavors, followed by Syrahs typical sweet spice and peppery character on the finish. Hints of mocha along with a wonderful smooth and silky texture with fine tannins. Ther is a 5% addition of Viognier which adds a violet essence to the flavors. Serve with Greek Feta cheese salad, Charcuterie, or lamb with butter beans..
Somms Comments: Deep dark purple in the glass. Aromas of plum, raspberries, and rhubarb pie with smokey undertones. Big, bold and rich flavors of Black fruits, ripe black cherries and raspberries. It opens quite nicely with a little time to breathe. Full bodied and very well balanced with light to medium tannins and acidity. Hints of Smoke and spice are subtle on the finish. This wine drinks amazing for the money!
I would pair this with a Ciopino stew or even pizza on a friday night.

Wine & SpiritsA core of brilliant red fruit opens up to a wider range of flower and earth scents in this wine, the texture smooth yet firm enough to get a grip on a steak. It will benefit from a few more years in bottle to gain in complexity. This comes from stony soils on the banks of the Limarí river, 250 miles north of Santiago
Wine AdvocateThe 2014 Merino Syrah is co-fermented with 5% Viognier. The free-run wine is matured in oak barrels and the press wine was kept in stainless steel, and blended in a 50/50 proportion after some ten months. The nose is classical cool climate Syrah with smoky bacon, violets, hints of black olives and a notion of tar, very consistent with what I tasted last year. The palate shows fine tannins and some chalky minerality, a texture more than a flavor. Good length and freshness. Very Rhône-ish
Wine EnthusiastHailing from Limarí in Chile's north, this 2014 Syrah is different than most. Aromas of cassis, raspberry and blueberry are jammy and a touch exotic. In the mouth, this is narrow and jacked to the max with acidity. Flavors of raw foxy berry fruits finish long, peppery and minty, with drying tannins.
