This is one of their most powerful Old Vine Zinfandel bottlings to date, but with a somewhat changed mix composition owing to Mother Nature's curveball. The biggest difference this year is that one of the blend's customary main ingredients, Amador County's Esola Vineyard, was picked early for rosé to avoid potential smoke difficulties from neighboring wildfires. As a result, the mix includes more fruit from Sonoma and Contra Costa counties. Just over 20% of the mix comes from the renowned Teldeschi Ranch, followed by Beeson, Sodini, Nervo, Dommen, Pagani, Papera, Evangelho, Pato, Katushas', and Bedrock—basically, a fairly good group of vineyards coming into their most entry level bottling. The final blend is 85% Zinfandel, 7% Carignan, and 4% Cinsault.
The core of the 2021 Old Vine Zin comes from the Teldeschi Vineyard in Sonoma, with smaller but significant contributions coming from 5 other Sonoma and Contra Costa based vineyards. 85% Zinfandel, 7% Carignan, 4% Cinsault and a smattering of other varietals like Petite Syrah, Alicante, and Grand Noir.

"Spry and briary, this Zinfandel is fun to drink, with lively black cherry, licorice and dried sage flavors, which take on richness and cracked pepper accents toward zesty tannins. Drink now through 2031." -Tim Fish

The 2022 Zinfandel Old Vine is an absolute delight. Fresh, floral, and fruity, the Old Vine is a terrific wine to drink now and over the next handful of years, while the fruit remains vibrant. Dollops of Carignan, Petite Sirah, Grenache, Cinsault, and other varieties round out a blend crafted from a number of top sites in the Bedrock portfolio. The Old Vine Zinfandel is especially vibrant and refreshing this year. Best if all, it should be terrific value.

The 2023 Zinfandel Old Vine comes from vines averaging 80 years old, and Bedrock farms the fruit for about 75% of this blend. The 2022 Zinfandel Old Vine has gregarious aromas of wild berry jam, apricot, earth and spice. The light-bodied palate has gently rustic, plummy flavors, tangy acidity, clay-textured tannins and a spicy finish. Drink it over the next 3-5 years.
