Somm Aaron's Notes: The Bierzo region in northwest Spain is a mix of mountains, valleys and mild plains. The temperature is very moderate which is great for the viticulture. The grape is Mencia and the Finca la Cuesta is 100% Mencia with an average of 40 year old vines. All Organic wine growing, Hand sorted and harvested, letting the land speak through the wine. This is also a Vegan friendly wine just so you know. I fell in love with this wine from the moment I tried it. It is Ruby red in color and pours into the glass like a rose pedal. It’s aromas are floral and earthy, delicately balanced with ripe dark red mountain fruit. Raspberries and black cherry are kissed with pepper with slight herbaceous notes. Medium bodied to full bodied and balanced like a figure skater. This wine evolves many times over, one of the most complex wines that I have had recently. The Finca la Cuesta is delicate, yet complex, it’s fruit driven yet structured and finessed with baking spice, rose pedals and a hint of dark cocoa. I paired this wine with a bison carpaccio and fennel salad. But to be honest it would go with a cheeseburger.
