Stolpman Vineyards Para Maria de los Tecolotes 2017
|Region||California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley|
The 2017 Syrah Para Maria is another attractive wine from Stolpman. Here, too, the fruit is bright, precise and articulate, which is to say quite a departure from the style of the 2016. Generous and pliant on the palate, with no hard edges and striking aromatics, the 2017 is shaping up to be a real beauty. The 2017 is a blend of 80% Syrah and 20% Petite Verdot (all purchased fruit) done with about 40% carbonic maceration. Don't miss it. Barrel Sample: 92-95
The nose on this extremely well-priced bottling, named after vineyard manager Ruben Solorzano's wife, is intense yet elegant, with crushed slate, black currant and charred pork aromas. The palate's chalky texture carries flavors of black plum, boysenberry, dark cocoa, fennel and marjoram
Medium to deep ruby-purple, the 2017 Para Maria de las Tecolotes has an inviting nose of crushed blueberries, red cherries, wild blackberries and red berry preserves with violet, charcuterie, spice and potpourri nuances. The medium-bodied palate is energetic and offers perfumed, tricolored fruits, with a frame of gently chewy tannins and juicy freshness, finishing long with lots of perfume. This will be a crowd-pleaser with its easy, Côtes-du-Rhone style. 4,400 cases produced.
