The 2015 Saint George (the winery uses the English translation of Agiorgitiko on the label) was aged for 12 months in used French oak. It comes in with four grams of sugar, right about at the typical line for "fully dry," and 13.5% alcohol. Unlike the lower-level red for Skouras (the Zoe, in the April issue), this is a bit more serious and better structured. It's still a lighter-styled wine, fruit forward and vivid in red-fruit flavor, but here the freshness lifts the fruit, so it no longer seems candied. The structure is modest and the tannins are very ripe to the point where they do not matter. This is a great choice for an easygoing house pour or a picnic wine. It can easily be a summer red, too, drunk a little cooler than normal. Drink it young and fresh. It won't reward long aging.
