This beer pours a lovely dark amber with a robust head. It reminds me of some loose memories of Baja Mexico in my more youthful days. The nose is malty and lightly sweet; it makes me expect a robust yet drinkable summer beer. The first sip is both bold and easy. The maltiness really hits on the front of the palate and very quickly passes in a light nuanced dance of intricate flavors and just enough effervescence to ensure a properly summer drinking experience. We have a handful of beers that are called dark Mexican lagers, and I think the style naming makes people think that they are going to drink something that tastes like liquified wood, this is not that. Dark, in this context, is relative. This beer lets me know that the term "dark" means more flavor. Not an oppressive flavor, or a winter flavor, but a flavor that is a little more robust than its' lighter cousins. This is a summer beer for those that want something more than the average crushable beer. It is crushable, you'll just enjoy it more. Review by James Fisher
