Duchesse De Bourgogne from Brouwerij Verhaeghe is the traditional Flemish red ale. This refreshing ale is matured in oak casks; smooth with a rich texture and interplay of passion fruit, chocolate, and a long, dry and acidic finish. After the first and secondary fermentation, the beer goes for maturation into the oak barrels for 18 months. The final product is a blend of younger 8 months old beer with 18 months old beer. The average age of the Duchesse de Bourgogne before being bottled is 12 months.

"The Verhaeghe brewery has history dating back to 1885 and has brewed its beer in the West Flanders traditional methods since its beginnings. This beer pours a brownish-ruby color with a small, foamy, ruby hued head. Very bold aromas of black cherry and candied cherries fill your nose, along with a tart character and some light grainy malts. It has a medium-light body with a light carbonation level and a mild tart finish. The palate mirrors the nose with this beer, although it is just slightly tarter than the nose leads on. This beer is the perfect blend of a Flanders red with tart Belgian cherries." Review by Dan Chacon
