Polkura Syrah 2017
Appearance: Deep red-violet in color.
Aroma: On the nose, there is lots of fruit. Red principally, with blackberry and plum.
Mouth Feel: In the mouth, it is silky despite its youth. It is well-balanced between its acidity and the sweetness of the tannins. It is an intense wine with good persistency and complexity.
The 2017 Syrah Polkura is blended with 6% Cabernet Franc, 1.5% Petit Verdot and 1.5% Grenache Noir from Marchigüe, Colchagua, and spent 15 months in 20% new French barrels. Dark garnet in color. The aromatic profile features bacon, blackberry, pepper and bay leaf against a backdrop of tapenade. Creamy with an expansive palate, it has a mild but slightly wild acidity. Ripe and satisfying at the back of the mouth.
The intensely varietal 2017 Syrah has abundant notes of black olives and smoked bacon and a full-bodied palate with juicy fruit and round tannins. It is round and lush, rich and tasty, with a long and somewhat salty finish. 45,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in October 2019.
Offers ripe dark fruit and cooking spice flavors, with lots of dried beef and pemmican notes. Tarry accents on the big, brooding finish. Drink now through 2023. 3,200 cases made, 840 cases imported.
