Michele Chiarlo Barolo Tortoniano 2012
Wine EnthusiastAromas suggesting ripe berry, exotic spice, Alpine herb and a whiff of blue flower come together in the glass. The dense, round palate offers black raspberry, fleshy cherry, licorice and espresso alongside velvety tannins. It's already surprisingly accessible.
Wine AdvocateThis wine is known for its mid-weight appeal and delicate floral fragrances. The 2012 Barolo Tortoniano is true to form. The bouquet is silky and finessed with cola, anise seed, grilled rosemary and lightly spicy Teriyaki sauce. There is fruit here, but it is fleeting. You get more cherry and cassis characteristics in the mouth than you do on the bouquet.
Wine SpectatorShy in aroma, this red offers hints of dried cherry, leather, underbrush and tobacco flavors. The tannins sneak up on you as the finish lingers. Best from 2018 through 2029. 6,000 cases made.
