Dow's Vale do Bomfim 2014
Wine SpectatorThis medium- to full-bodied red features lots of fresh-crushed red fruit and spice flavors, supported by lively acidity. Peppery notes show on the juicy finish. Drink now through 2018. 7,000 cases made.
Wine AdvocateThe 2014 Tinto Vale Do Bomfim Dow is a blend of 40% Tinta Barroca, 30% Touriga Franca, 20% Touriga Nacional and 10% Tinta Roriz, aged in a mixture of oak and stainless steel. This is pleasingly fruity and expressive this year, despite the vintage difficulties. Light but fresh, which I suspect will be a continuing theme with this vintage, this is very tasty in its youth. It has a bit better structure than the Altano Tinto (also reviewed), although it isn't necessarily more fun. As with the Altano, drink this on the younger side. It won't reward aging and it may not be this interesting a couple of years from now. There were 7,000 cases produced.
