Bright in colour with pale golden glints, our 2016 Corton-Charlemagne reveals an intense nose of fresh hazelnut with hints of roasting, marzipan and vanilla. Full on the palate, the vanilla aromas come along with notes of fresh almond, linden and some toasted notes. On the finish, aromas of citrus mingle with saline notes. A very beautiful length. Food Pairing: Shellfish - lobster - foie gras - fish - mature cheeses.

This has attractive notes of wet chalk with bread dough and a swathe of ripe peaches. Nuances of citrus, too. The palate has great weight and depth with a very assertive, long and seamless drive. Classic Corton power here. Wow! Drink or hold.

A subdued nose on this wine allows glimpses of lemon and chalk, holding a distant promise of gilded richness. The palate comes in with smooth precision, still harboring a flinty whiff of reduction but also hinting at creamy, rich depths of texture and flavor. A chalky well of lemony, cool freshness awaits at the core. This wine needs time to blossom, and promises chalky, bright, generous but precise richness. The finish offers a lovely note of butter.

Nobody owns more Corton-Charlemagne than Louis Latour, whose ten parcels are spread across 9.95ha in Ladoix and Pernand-Vergelesses. This is a textbook interpretation of the grand cru in a vintage which has produced some impressive wines across the appellation. It's spicy, plush and powerful, with some white pepper notes, vivid acidity and sweet, toasty oak. Drinking Window 2020 - 2025

Generous but not dominant wood sets off the cool yet ever-so-mildly exotic aromas of lychee, melon, freshly sliced green apple, floral and lemon rind. The larger-scaled flavors are succulent to the point of opulence thanks to the abundance of sappy dry extract that coats the palate on the powerful, stony and serious finale. This is very backward at present and will need at least a decade to reveal its full, and considerable, potential. Barrel Sample: 91-94

The 2017 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is performing well in bottle, mingling hints of citrus oil, green apple and pear with notes of warm bread and fresh pastry in a pretty bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, muscular and concentrated, this is a powerful but lively rendition of Latour's emblematic white.
