Don Olegario Albarino 2016
|Region||Spain, Galicia, Rias Baixas|
Wine AdvocateOlegario's flagship 2016 Albariño is produced with grapes from their four hectares of vineyards which are planted with vines averaging 40 years of age in Cambados at 95 meters above sea level. It is pressed after a cold soak with carbonic snow and fermented with neutral yeasts. It matures sur lie for eight months before bottling. It's quite similar to the Flores de Mayo from the same year with a clean, fruit-driven profile, with aromas of white pears, green apples, some white flowers and citrus. The palate revealed pungent flavors, lively acidity and very good freshness, with focused flavors and a dry, clean finish. 30,000 bottles produced.
Wine EnthusiastApple and vanilla-cookie aromas are mild. The slightly chunky mouthfeel suggests grape skins. Skins-driven flavors of lime and grapefruit finish with an oily texture and a taste of citrus peel.
Wine SpectatorGinger and quinine notes frame light pear and quince flavors in this lean white. Firm acidity supports the savory character. Balanced and clean. Drink now. 7,000 cases made.
All sizes are 750ml unless otherwise stated.
