Nose: Layered aromas, including blackberry, currant, toasty pie crust, eucalyptus, and a waft of hearty meatiness. Palate: Dark fruits prevail on the palate--cherry, plum and mission fig--nicely seasoned with sage and a light smokiness. The mouth is soft, yet still textural, as tannin and acid marry evenly. Pairings: Excellent with wild mushrooms, duck, roast beef, lamb, other red meats or even grilled salmon.

Structured and a bit taut, with savory cherry, black tea and dusky spice flavors that build toward medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2028. 3,662 cases made.

The aromas aren't ready to reveal themselves, with notes of black-tea leaves and assorted barrel spices. Lightly creamy-feeling flavors follow, with plentiful cranberry accents. The appeal is as much about feel as flavor.

From the estate and single vineyards that Erath sources their grapes from, the jeweled ruby-colored 2019 Pinot Noir Reserve Collection takes on significantly more character and personality, with floral and fruity aromas of cherry liqueur, candied red flowers, and licorice. The palate is more structured, with meaty red fruit, spice, and earthy notes of turned soil. For only a small bump up in price, this is a significantly more serious wine that will hold up well over the next few years. Approximately 4000 cases were produced.
