Peumo regards this Carménère, made with 5% de Cabernet, as an experiment: violet red, it offers aromas of both fresh and stewed cherry, plum and raspberries along with hints of pepper. Fleshy with a terse texture, it contains fresh, juicy tannins and a lengthy, well-sustained flavor.

All their Carmenere comes from Peumo, the classical zone for the grape in Cachapoal, including the 2018 Marques de Casa Concha Carmenere, which also contains 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and a touch of Cabernet Franc. This is expressive and varietal, spicy and open, with good freshness, and it was produced in a much more approachable way than in the past-matured in a combination of barriques and oak foudres. All these Carmenere have a more modern, fresher style, and this is a good introduction to it.
