A papal wine that draws its power and confidence from the soil of different vineyards situated in the north, east and the center of the appellation. Fine sands, red clay and sandstone, contribute to the overall picture, especially the vineyards called «Le Pradel» and «La Font du Pape». The translation of the Provencal name of the latter location refers to relatively humid soils on which Syrah, or its ancestor, the Sérine, expresses with particular freshness. The traditional blending of different vineyards and historical grape varieties of the region, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Counoise, finds its raison d’être in the elegance and harmony of the wines it produces.
A pure nose exuding perfectly ripe red fruit, enveloped by black plum, violet and green peppercorn. The palate is immediately greeted with a rush of acidity, rolling in a wave of black cherry, thyme stem, violets, iris, clove and black tea. Though currently a bit wound, it should shine with impressive nuances with additional time in bottle. Undeniably irresistible.
This offers high-toned raspberry tea, bitter cherry and macerated plum overlaying a savory, smoldering core of incense, graphite, singed apple wood and smoke. Glossy and lush, with savory acidity and very fine tannins providing shape. Grenache and Syrah. Drink now through 2030. 400 cases made, 200 cases imported.
All sizes are 750ml unless otherwise stated.
