James Suckling"Aromas of mint, blackberry and cherry follow through to a full body with fine tannins and a persistent texture and flavor. Some age in large casks. A blend of mostly carmenere and cabernet sauvignon with some cabernet franc and merlot. Drink now."~JS

Wine EnthusiastLightly roasted, leathery berry aromas are oaky but not overly woody or resiny. A dense, concentrated palate is creamy but appropriate in feel, while flavors of black cherry, cassis, baking spices, vanilla and caramel end in a lasting swirl of licorice, nutmeg and cocoa powder flavors.

Wine AdvocateThe entry-level 2013 Primus mixes grapes of different origins -- Apalta (warmer and slightly more humid) and Marchigue (cooler and low yielding), both in Colchagua, as well as some Merlot from the warmer part of Casablanca. It's a multi-grape blend that includes Cabernet Sauvignon, CarmÃÆ'Æ'©nÃÆ'Æ'¨re, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot that fermented in open top vats with native yeasts, and matured in barrels of which 20% were new. In 2013 the blend is a little different, a little lighter, with less CarmÃÆ'Æ'©nÃÆ'Æ'¨re and more Merlot from Casablanca, which has good acidity and makes the blend higher-pitched and fresher. The nose is certainly fresh, and there are even aromas of red cherries without a trace of excessive ripeness or extraction, quite subtle and poised. There is a slight creaminess but otherwise the effect of the oak is almost imperceptible. On the palate, the notes of the Bordeaux varieties are more obvious than in the nose, and the texture is soft with polished tannins and only a medium body, which results in a highly drinkable wine. A nice Bordeaux blend with freshness. 300,000 bottles produced.
